Get to Know Will Kirschner, LISW (He|Him)
Embedded Counselor| College of Law and Graduate College
Will Kirschner, he/him, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker embedded in the Graduate College and College of Law. He graduated from the University of Northern Kentucky with a master’s in social work and is licensed to practice in Ohio. Will is working on getting his supervision credential.
Will’s therapeutic approach is centered in the client’s needs here and now and is strongly based in Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Strengths-Based. He has strong interest in working with individuals questioning their substance use, anxiety and depression and individuals who identify as neurodivergent. He hopes to support students on their educational journeys and recognize their uniqueness and what they bring to table. He believes that all people have the strengths inside of them to manage what is bothering them but that we would all benefit from a helpful guide.
Outside of work Will is often playing football videogames, RPGs or tabletop games. He enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and four pets (three cats, one dog.) He is always on the search for new restaurants and cuisines to try.
If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: I considered many lines of work before landing on therapist but I would be still helping people whether as a teacher, nurse or public defender.
My favorite sandwich: A Skyline cheese coney.
My favorite movie about mental health is About Time. The plot centers on a family where the men can time travel. It reminds me of the importance of being present, mindful and to value and respect the now and what it brings.
