Sabrina Bothwell, she/her, is a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Candidate located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. She is studying at UC to earn her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in couples and families. She graduated with a B.S in Psychology from Georgia State University and a master’s in clinical psychology from UC. Before coming to CAPS, Sabrina conducted neuropsychological assessments in private practice and conducted individual/couples/family therapy at an urban community mental health clinic. She worked at CAPS in 2023-24 and returned in 2025 because she loved the work so much.

Sabrina takes an integrative, person-centered, trauma-informed approach to clinical work, using primarily mindful self-compassion and acceptance and commitment therapy strategies. Sabrina’s main clinical interests are relationship concerns, trauma, and identity exploration. She loves working with clients to explore what they value and supporting them in moving towards the person they want to be and the life they want to live.

What I do to take care of myself after a challenging day/time/situation: Rock climb with friends or practice yoga alone. Both activities allow me to be mindful and center my energy when I’m distressed. I feel more capable and accepting afterwards. Once or twice a year I take a solo backpacking trip to reset, which is especially helpful after a long-term challenging situation.

If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: Working at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream or Starbucks! I had both of those jobs before starting grad school and I loved them. I loved being in an environment where my only job was to help people have a great day – kind of like what I do now at CAPS.

My favorite thing about working at CAPS: I love working with young adults. It’s so cool to be alongside someone on their journey to learn more about themselves and what they want out of life.
