Civility Workshop: Foundations of Civil Discourse

Led by Andrew Cullison, Executive Director, Cincinnati Ethics Center
This workshop equips participants with foundational knowledge and skills to engage in and foster civil discourse. It emphasizes strategies to enhance moral reasoning, essential for civil discourse, and includes a structured dialogue activity designed to help participants’ ability to promote constructive conversations.
This series is presented by the Portman Center for Policy Solutions in partnership with Warren Bennis Leadership Institute, The Cincinnati Ethics Center, and University Honors and in collaboration with UC Libraries and the Cincinnati Alliance of Braver Angels.

Policy in Practice: Legislative Careers in Public Service

Join the Portman Center for a panel discussion and Q&A with current and former legislative staffers from across levels of government. Panelists include Grant Bagshaw (Office of U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno), Lilah Foley (Office of Hamilton County Commissioner Denise Driehaus, formerly with the office of Ohio State Representative Rachel Baker), and Gus Ricksecker (formerly with the offices of Cincinnati City Council Members Reggie Harris and Evan Nolan).
Panelists will discuss their experience working with elected officials and in public policy, their path to public service, and their collegiate and internship experiences. Followed by Q&A.

The Portman Center challenges University of Cincinnati students across majors to propose solutions to significant issues in local and national politics. Participating teams present their proposals to expert guest judges and are encouraged to bring their proposals into action by sharing their research with lawmakers and other public changemakers.
Portman Center Policy Symposium

The Portman Center convenes local, state, and national policy leaders to discuss achievable solutions to issues that impact our communities. These convenings welcome students and UC affiliates, government officials and staff, non-profit organizations, and community members to engage in policy practice.
